BEVERLY, Mass- The eleventh ranked Norwich University Women's Ice Hockey team opened their season with a bang by defeating ninth ranked Endicott 5-2 Tuesday night at Raymond Bourque Arena.
The Cadets got off to a fast start when senior
Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, On.) got on the board just under three minutes into the contest. Baptiste would find the scoresheet again at 6:21 of the second period, both times getting assists from her linemates
Ann-Frederique Guay (St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec) and
Aimee Headland (Nottingham, U.K.). Guay's final stat line included a power play goal in the second period and three assists while Headland had the two assists. Also prominent up front was freshman
Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) with a first period goal in her collegiate debut.
Prominent on the back end was graduate student
Morgan Tefft (Redwood City, Calif.), freshman
Emma Morel (Turnon, France) and junior
Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Mass) with an assist each as well as senior
Molly Flanigan (
Lutz, Fla.) with a goal late in the second period.
In goal the Cadets were anchored by junior
Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) who stopped 31 of 33 shots faced. Norwich will look to build on their momentum out of the gate when they host UMass Boston Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 3 PM at Kreitzberg Arena.
