WORCESTER, Mass- The Norwich University Football team fell to WPI 20-15 Saturday afternoon at H. Carr Field.
The Cadets opened the scoring on their second possession of the game. A nine play drive that went 38 yards was capped off by a four yard touchdown pass from
Mitchell Theal (Elma, N.Y.) to
Tykell Stewart (Locust Grove, Ga.). Stewart finished the day as Norwich's leading receiver with eight receptions for 93 yards and the score while Theal would go 23 for 34 with two touchdown passes and an interception.
The Engineers would respond in the second quarter on a 40 yard touchdown catch by junior
Hunter Carey (South Hadley, Mass). Carey was the leading rusher for the game gaining 112 yards on 15 carries and a rushing touchdown that came early in the fourth quarter and gave WPI a 14-9 lead.
Later in the fourth quarter the Cadets responded by marching 80 yards on 13 plays and was finished off by a
Trevor Chase (Eliot, Maine) touchdown to give Norwich a 15-14 lead. On the ensuing kickoff freshman
Ryan Hannigan (Needham, Mass) went 90 yards on the return for the score to put the Engineers ahead 20-15.
Norwich will close out their season Saturday November 5 when they host Catholic for Senior Day at Sabine Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM. Â
