KINGS POINT, N.Y.- The Norwich University Football team fell short against Merchant Marine Academy 19-7 Sunday afternoon. Their first loss in NEWMAC play on the season and their third straight on the road.
The Mariners drew first blood early in the second quarter after an interception off junior Quarterback
Mitchell Theal (Elma, N.Y.). Merchant Marine would then go on a five-play drive of 67 yards capped off by a 37-yard touchdown run by senior Quarterback
Jeremiah Wang (Manassas, Va.). Wang would finish the day as the game's leading rusher with 30 carries for 134 yards and the score.
The Mariners would add a second touchdown after a Norwich three and out and would add a
Jackson Tinkis (Bossier City, La.) at the halftime buzzer to make it a 17-0 deficit for the Cadets.
Norwich would break through early in the third quarter with a seven play 98 yard drive capped off with Theal finding sophomore
Will Thornton (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in the end zone. A drive highlighted by a 46 yard catch and run by junior
Justin Bryant (Eliot, Maine). As the Cadets were attempting to drive late in the game a low grounder of a snap evaded Theal's grasp and went out of the end zone for a game clinching safety in favor of Merchant Marine.
The Cadets will look to snap their road losing streak when they travel to Springfield College. Kickoff is set for 12 PM.
