Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's soccer team scored early and often in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener en route to a 7-0 win over Lasell on Saturday.
Senior midfielder Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) scored his first collegiate hat trick to lead the Cadets' offense. Senior Andree Hernandez (Cancun, Mexico) scored twice in his first game in a Norwich uniform as well.
Freshman Cullen Swett (Williston, Vt.) and sophomore Jami Lashua (Williston, Vt.) each scored goals, while junior Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) added two assists as Norwich extended its hot offensive start to the season.
Norwich scored three goals in the first 10 minutes to immediately shellshock the Lasers out of the gate. Nemeye scored just 2:38 into the game off an assist from Thongsythavong.
Swett scored his first collegiate goal in his first collegiate game at the 5:04 mark on an unassisted tally.
Lashua made it 3-0 at the 7:28 mark with his second goal of the season off an assist from Thongsythavong.
Nemeye scored twice more before halftime to complete the first-half hat trick at the 29:39 and 42:08 mark.
Hernandez added two second-half goals at the 68:40 and 82:28 mark off assists from Ryan McKee (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Swett respectively.
Norwich outshot Lasell 26-5. Junior goalkeeper Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) made one save to improve to 2-1 on the season and combine for the team shutout with Nicolas Lanza (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) playing the final 21 minutes.
The Cadets will travel to Castleton on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with the Spartans. Norwich then returns home on Sept. 18 for a crucial GNAC showdown with St. Joseph's (Maine) scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
