NORTHFIELD, Vt. - For the first time in over a calendar year, the Norwich University men's swimming and diving team was in the pool competing against another team in intercollegiate competition.
The Cadets took on the Division I Univ. of Maine on Sunday morning at Goodyear Pool, falling 203-73 to the Black Bears.
Norwich swept the 1-meter diving portion of the meet with Jack Brennan taking the top spot with 206.40 points. Kevin Gamble placed second with 140.24 points and Aidan Grady was third with 127.35 points.
Gordon Suwirjo finished third in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 12:34.12. Senior Sam Carlson also finished third in the 200 freestyle, narrowly missing out on beating UMaine's Eric Turner for second place by just .6 of a second.
The Norwich 400 freestyle relay team of Gio Giovenco, Logan Wineriter, Joseph Clark and Carlson finished with the top scoring time of 3:34.61. UMaine's A squad of Andy Sprague Jacob Ketch, Liam Blair and Kevin Arpin set the new Goodyear Pool record in event with a time 3:16.28, but were exhibitioned.
Norwich will be in action again in two weeks with another Roger Williams virtual meet at Goodyear Pool set to start at 4 p.m. The meet will also serve as the Cadets' Senior Day.
