STANDISH, Maine - For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Saint Joseph's (Maine) men's soccer team played kryptonite to Norwich, downing the Cadets 1-0 in 2OT to claim the 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title.

St. Joe's freshman forward Gus Ford scored at the 106:16 mark of the game, tapping home a pass from Kuma Onyejose from the right to lift the Monks to their fourth GNAC title in the last five seasons. St. Joe's has beaten Norwich in three of those title games and also ended Norwich's season in the 2019 GNAC Semifinals with a 3-2 win in Standish.

Norwich had its 12-game unbeaten streak snapped in the loss. The Cadets' last loss was on Sept. 18 at home vs. St. Joe's, also by a score of 1-0. Norwich finishes the 2021 season with a 14-3-1 record, tying its highest win total since the 2008 season.

Norwich outshot Saint Joseph's (Maine) 24-7 in the game, but the Cadets were unable to solve graduate student goalkeeper David Walbridge and the Monks' defense. Walbridge made seven saves in the game to pickup the shutout.

Norwich junior goalkeeper Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) countered with two saves. 

Norwich junior forward Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) fired a team-high 10 shots towards the goal, but the new Norwich single-season goals scored record holder was unable to find the back of the net for the first time in 12 games. 

Thongsythavong, Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.) and Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) were each named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team. 

Norwich is now 4-6-2 all-time in GNAC final appearances, finishing as the runner-up now in six straight appearances. The Cadets' last GNAC title came in 2008, beating St. Joe's (Maine) in the final.
