NORTHFIELD, Vt.Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) tallied his sixth career hat trick, leading the Norwich University men's soccer team to a season-high eight goals and an 8-1 win over Anna Maria College on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Thongsythavong stretched his goal-scoring streak to six straight games, including 11 during that span and a team-leading 15 tallies on the season. Thongsythavong has scored 35 goals in 34 career games and moved into sole possession of fourth place on the Norwich all-time goals scored list. He is also now tied for ninth on the all-time points list with 75 points.

Norwich (9-2, 7-1 GNAC) also won its sixth straight game and moved to within a point of second-place Albertus Magnus in the league standings after the Falcons lost 2-0 to Johnson & Wales. Albertus has also played one more game than Norwich.

Senior defender Alex Brannan (Oneonta, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) each had a goal and an assist as well for Norwich. Freshman defender Aidan Dwyer (Glastonbury, Conn.) added two assists.

Hunter Lortie (Manchester, N.H.) and Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.) each scored goals as well to round out the Norwich offensive leaders on the night.

Thongsythavong opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a goal off an assist from Brannan. The Cadets added another goal in the 25th minute, capitalizing on an Anna Maria own goal after Alex Brannan's cross from the right was redirected into the back of the AMCATS' net to make it 2-0.

Brannan scored his first of the season in the 30th minute with a free-kick from the right side that bounced around in the box and ended up in the back of the net.

Anna Maria (1-10-1, 1-6 GNAC) got on the board in the 39th minute with Rubelsi Moran beating Robert Wagenseller over the top from 25 yards out and into the back right corner of the net to briefly cut the deficit to 3-1.

Norwich added another goal before halftime though with Lortie scoring off an assist on a corner kick from Nemeye for his first tally of the season.

Thongsythavong completed his hat trick early in the second half with two goals both coming off assists from Dwyer in the 59th minute and the 69th minute. Nemeye scored unassisted in the 76th minute for his sixth goal of the season and Jorgenson capped the scoring with his first collegiate goal off an assist off a corner kick from Noel Rios (El Paso, Texas).

Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) made two saves for the Cadets in goal to pick up his ninth victory of the season. Nicholas Lanza (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) came on for the final 10 minutes and was untested.

Norwich will travel to Boston on Saturday for a 12 p.m. matchup with sixth-place Emmanuel. The Cadets will then return home to host NVU Lyndon on Monday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
