Baseball: Ospreys Sweep Cadets

Galloway, N.J. – The Norwich University baseball team traveled to Stockton University for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.

The Ospreys swept the Cadets with a 10-4 win in game one and a 12-2 victory in game two.

In game one, Stockton jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning of play. The Ospreys then added three runs in the second and one more in the third for a 9-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, freshman second baseman Abel Oropeza (Whittier, Calif.) delivered an RBI single that was followed by a two-run hit by junior center fielder Koby Foster (Estill Springs, Tenn.) to cut the deficit to 9-3.

Stockton plated one more run in the home half of the fifth inning before the Cadets could rally for the final tally of the game in the top of the seventh inning. Foster delivered another RBI, this time a single through the left side of the infield to make it a 10-4 final score.

Freshman PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season, he allowed eight earned runs on nine hits in one and one-third innings of work. He walked three batters.

In game two, Stockton took an early 1-0 lead into the top of the third inning before sophomore designated hitter Cameron Chamberlain (Marlborough, Mass.) reached on a fielding error, allowing senior right fielder Chris Dayos (Temecula, Calif.) to score to tie the game. Freshman left fielder Kyle Quattrin (Sterling, Va.) then delivered an RBI double down the left field line that scored Chamberlain and gave the Cadets a 2-1 lead.

The Ospreys then took over with two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth, and four in the sixth for the 12-2 final.

Senior CJ Davis (South Berwick, Maine) took the loss for NU to fall to 0-1. He allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits over four and one-third innings of work.

The Cadets fall to 2-2 on the season while Stockton improves to 4-0. Norwich is next in action on Saturday, March 7th for a doubleheader against Monmouth (Ill.) in Vero Beach, Florida. Game times are set for noon and 2:30 p.m.
