Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. - Sophomore forward Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) missed just one of his 18 field goal attempts, scoring a career-high 39 points to power the Norwich men's basketball team past Lesley University, 78-67, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Medford High School.
Norwich (5-15) has now posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season after besting Saint Joseph's (ME) this past Saturday. The Cadets rode Lewis Jr.'s dominance in the paint as the second-year post player shot 17-of-18 from the floor with all but one make coming in the paint.
The teams went back and forth in the first eight minutes with Lesley (0-19) staking itself to a 19-18 lead at the 12:03 mark. As the Cadets did in their last game, the team's defense held the opposition scoreless for long stretches. Norwich kept the Lynx off the scoreboard for a 9-minute span in the middle of the half which helped the Cadets leak out to a commanding 38-19 lead. Lewis Jr. notched 14 of the team's 20 points during the run.
Norwich continued to go to back to the well, repeatedly feeding the post as the first half ended with senior forward Josh Dumay (Framingham, Mass.) taking advantage down low with a layup and a dunk to help pad the lead to 44-26 at the break.
The visitors continued to shoot the ball well in the second half expanding their lead to as many as 23 and were able to hold a double-digit lead through to the final buzzer.
The Cadets shot a season-best 57.1 percent from the field while holding the Lynx to a 43.3 percent mark. Norwich held a slight 32-39 edge on the glass and almost doubled the hosts in points in the paint with a 56-30 advantage.
Lewis Jr. added seven rebounds and four assists to his team-high 39 points. Sophomore guard Caleb Casinas (Aiea, Hawaii) was the only other starter in double figures with 12 points while Dumay led the reserves with 11 points. Junior forward Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) led the team in rebounds with eight in addition to his six points and four assists.
Norwich will attempt to win three-straight for the first time since the 2017-18 season when it continues conference play with a matchup against Regis at home on Saturday at 3 p.m.
