Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's basketball team was held to its lowest field goal percentage in nearly five years in an 88-50 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to Emmanuel on Andy Yosinoff Court on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich (3-14, 0-4 GNAC) hit just 19-of-65 (29.2%) of its shots from the floor, including a 6-for-29 mark from deep. The Cadets haven't been held to such a low shooting total since the third game of the 2014-15 season when they put up a 26.7 percent mark against Westfield St. The Cadets were also outrebounded in this game by a 55-35 margin and allowed Emmanuel (14-3, 2-1 GNAC) to rack up 24 points off of 16 turnovers in the lopsided loss.
A promising start featuring a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Caleb Casinas (Aiea, Hawaii) on the first possession of the game was quickly nullified by a 20-0 run by the Saints in the next six and a half minutes.
Several other long stretches of offensive ineffectiveness quickly ballooned the deficit beyond 30 points as the Cadets entered halftime facing an insurmountable 51-19 Saints' lead.
To its credit, Norwich got the offense back on track for the second half after making only 6-of-20 shots in the opening stanza. In fact, the Cadets outshot the Saints hitting 37.1 percent of their attempts compared to the hosts' 35.3 percent mark for the field.
Norwich was led by junior forward Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) who was the lone Cadet in double figures with 12 points. Sophomore guard Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe (Stockholm, Sweden) netted eight points, while Casinas tallied seven in addition to his team-leading six rebounds.
Norwich will remain on the road for its next game when it travels to Colby-Sawyer to face the Chargers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
