Box Score NEWTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team had their season ended on Saturday afternoon at the hands of Mount Ida College, as the Mustangs defeated the Cadets by a 19-8 final score in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Playoffs.
Mount Ida jumped on the Cadets early, scoring four straight goals in the first seven minutes of game time to go up 4-0. Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) got the Cadets on the board with an unassisted goal, but the Mustangs' just kept coming on strong. By the half, Norwich trailed by a 13-5 score.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with Mount Ida punching in five straight goals to extend their lead. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Cadets had fallen by a 19-8 final score.
Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) wrapped up a very strong freshman season with three goals, seven draw controls, and four ground balls on the day. Mary-Kait Mace recorded her first hat trick of the year with three goals, and senior Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) collected two goals in her final game in the maroon and gold.
The loss wraps up Norwich's season with a 7-8 overall record, as the team qualified for the postseason for the 11th season in a row. The Mustangs advance to the GNAC Semifinals, set to take place on May 1.
