Women's Lacrosse: Norwich's historic 2025 season ends in GNAC Semifinals at JWU (Providence)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team saw its historic 2025 season come to a close on Wednesday evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals, falling to South Division top-seed JWU (Providence), 11-4, at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The Cadets, seeded second in the GNAC North Division, finish the season at 15-3 overall, the most wins in a single season in program history.  The semifinal appearance marked the team's deepest postseason run since 2014 and capped a record-breaking campaign that included a 12-game winning streak, the second-longest stretch in program annals.

Offensively, three different Cadets found the back of the net, led by Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.), who netted a pair of unassisted goals.  Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) and Caitlin Slider (Thetford Center, Vt.) each tallied one goal, while Ellie Moriarty (Stowe, Vt.) registered the lone assist for Norwich on Slider's fourth-quarter finish.

On the defensive side, Norwich continued to demonstrate the tenacity that fueled its regular season success.  The Cadets registered 13 caused turnovers, with Celine Juneau (Chazy, N.Y.), Athena Merck (West Yarmouth, Mass.), Sarah Moshrefi (Leesburg, Va.), and Julia Proto (Orange, Conn.) each contributing a team-high two caused turnovers.

Norwich also held a 24-20 edge in ground balls, led by goalkeeper Bailey Manning-Ingala (West Hartford, Conn.) with four, while Sophie Zemianek (St. Albans, Vt.), Lindsey Parker (Wells, Maine), and Julia Gutke (Stockholm Sweden), chipped in with three each.

Manning-Ingala closed out her breakout junior season with another strong performance in goal, recording nine saves in a full 60-minute effort.  She concludes the 2025 campaign with an 11-3 record between the pipes, helping anchor a Norwich defense that allowed single-digit goals in 13 contests.

The match-up opened as a tightly contested battle, with JWU getting on the board first at the 7:36 mark of the first quarter.  Ricker answered less than a minute later, weaving through traffic to level the score.  After JWU regained the lead on a man-up opportunity, Mustone responded with an unassisted strike in the final minute of the first quarter to send the game into the second quarter tied at 2-2.

From there, the Wildcats began to pull away, reeling off four straight goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 advantage into the halftime break.  Ricker struck again early in the third to bring the Cadets back within three, but JWU continued its surge with another five-goal run spanning the third and fourth quarters.  Slider added a late tally off a sharp pass from Moriarty with minutes remaining to close the scoring for Norwich.

JWU, who also defeated Norwich in last year's quarterfinal round, advances to Saturday's GNAC Championship game for a rematch of the 2024 title clash against North Division top-seed Emmanuel College.
