Box Score PAXTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action with a 3-1 victory over Anna Maria College on Wednesday afternoon.
Norwich (3-3-1, 2-0-1 GNAC) extended its unbeaten streak in league games to 12 straight games. NU's last league loss came on Oct. 24 in a 3-1 loss at Saint Joseph's (Maine).
The Cadets got a goal and an assist from senior forward Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, R.I.) to lead the offense on the day. Freshman Matt Bento (Brookfield, Conn.) scored his first collegiate goal, while sophomore Carlos Guerra (Mission, Texas) continued his strong offensive start to the season with a goal as well.
Guerra opened the scoring just 8:12 into the game with his first goal of the season off an assist from Greg Zydanowicz (Newington, Conn.).
Estrada scored his second goal of the season off an assist from junior Matt Hilton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in the 48th minute to push the Norwich lead to 2-0.
Anna Maria (1-5-1, 0-3-0 GNAC) got a goal back in the 53rd minute with Cristian Peguri scoring on an assist from the AMCATS' leading scorer Gift Kalombo.
Bento gave Norwich some breathing room with an insurance tally in the 77th minute for his first collegiate goal. Estrada picked up the assist on the goal to push his team-leading point total to seven on the season.
Junior goalkeeper Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) made two saves to pick up the victory and improve to 3-3-1 on the season.
Norwich outshot Anna Maria 13-8 on the day and had eight corner kicks to the AMCATS' one.
Mark Robinshaw took the loss for Anna Maria, falling to 1-3 on the season after making five saves.
Norwich returns home to Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff vs. Emmanuel College on Friday, Sept. 22 in another GNAC contest.
