NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's soccer team was downed by the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday by a 2-0 score. 

Norwich and Wentworth exit play in the 2017 Cadet Kickoff Classic with matching 1-1 records. Ithaca defeated Southern Vermont by a 5-0 margin, claiming the tournament championship with a 2-0 record and a plus-six goal differential. 

Emmett Basaca opened the scoring in the game's 10th minute, blasting a free kick home from 30 yards out. Later in the first half, Griffin Price tapped home a loose ball at the goal line that Norwich netminder Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) could not corral following a Michael Zendan shot. 

The Leopards outshot Norwich by a 17-to-9 margin and forced Germano to make five saves. Joe Schallmo earned the shutout victory for Wentworth, making saves on all three shots that he faced. 

Norwich will host in-state rival Middlebury this Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
