Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team posted a convincing 3-0 victory over in-state rival Green Mountain College on Wednesday. The Cadets move to 1-4 overall on the year while the Eagles (0-1) dropped their season-opener via set scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-5.
Freshman Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) posted eight kills for the Cadets without committing a single error on 12 total attacks. Junior Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) joined teammate Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) with 10 assists in the match – Oliver would tie for the team-high lead with six digs, equaling the defensive output of freshman Sarah Kazmierczak (Buffalo, N.Y.).
Crane would also set a career-high mark with five service aces, propelling the Cadets to its 11th-straight victory over Green Mountain while remaining without a defeat in the all-time series (11-0). As a team, Norwich hammered home 15 service aces and registered 33 digs against the Eagles.
Norwich trailed by a 4-2 margin in the opening set, but settled down to rattle off six-straight points to take a commanding 13-5 lead in the stanza. The second set would see the Cadets open a 14 point lead and, later, the visitors would cap the match with 14-straight points to secure the win.
Norwich returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 10 as it welcomes MCLA and Lyndon State College to campus for a tri-match that commences at high noon.
