NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team put together a sharp, energetic effort on Wednesday night, notching a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-19, 25-22) over Lesley University in a non-conference matchup at Minuteman High School.
The Cadets saw contributions across the board in the wire-to-wire win, with
Cameryn Jenkins (Monroe, Mich.) pacing the offense with eight kills and nine digs.Â
Charlotte Johnson (Moultonborough, N.H.) turned in a standout all-around performance, leading the team with 10 digs and three service aces.
Autumn Parkhurst (Parish, N.Y.) dished out 23 assists, while
Isabella Vasapolli (Pepperell, Mass.) commanded the net defensively with a match-high five blocks.
The opening set featured several momentum swings, as Norwich surged ahead 6-4 on a 5-1 run before the Lynx answered with six straight points. The Cadets responded immediately with an 8-0 burst to reclaim the lead and kept control late. A 3-0 Norwich run featuring block assists from Vasapolli and
Elexis Powell (Charlott Hall, Md.) and back-to-back kills by Johnson pushed the lead to 23-17. A service error by the Lynx closed the frame in Norwich's favor.
The Cadets came out strong in the second, racing to a 3-0 start and eventually building a 19-10 cushion. A pair of 4-0 runs helped keep Lesley at arm's length, and Norwich sealed the set with a kill from Powell off a feed by
Sarah DeBot (Rochester, N.Y.).
Lesley took the early edge in the third set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead, but Norwich responded quickly. A kill from Johnson and a Lynx attack error flipped the score, and the Cadets took the lead for good down the stretch. With the set tied at 21, Norwich rattled off three straight points on a pair of Lesley errors and a Johnson ace to reach match point. One final Lynx miscue sealed the sweep.
The victory continues the Cadets' unbeaten record against Lesley, with Wednesday's result marking the program's second all-time win over the Lynx and first meeting since 2010.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 1, traveling to Newton, Mass., for its final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match of the season. The Cadets will take on Dean College at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 3:00 p.m. matchup against host Lasell University.
