Men's Soccer: Cadets down Anna Maria 3-0

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt.  – The Norwich University men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to cruise to a 3-0 victory over Anna Maria College on Friday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Norwich (5-4-2, 2-0-2 GNAC) stayed unbeaten in league play and kicked off Parent & Family Weekend with the victory.

Junior Chandler Neiswanger (Roy, Utah), sophomore Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Luke Gleadle (Gilbert, Ariz.) all scored goals, while junior Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) notched two assists to lead the Cadets' offense in the win.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Norwich finally got on the board at the 49:56 mark when Melia headed home a corner kick service from Moab Schiers (South Weber, Utah) for his fourth goal of the season. The goal also marked the third straight tally that Schiers and Melia had hooked up.

Neiswanger extended the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute with his first collegiate goal coming on a side volley near the penalty kick spot off an assist from Lozito. Neiswanger swung with his right leg and tucked the ball into the left corner of the net.

Gleadle capped the scoring exactly four minutes later at the 68:44 mark with a bullet into the right top corner of the net off an assist from Loztio. The goal was Gleadle's second of the season and was Lozito's team-leading fifth assist.

Norwich outshot Anna Maria 29-5 as it picked up its first home victory of 2016. The Cadets improved to 1-2-1 on the season. Senior Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) stopped all three shots he faced to pick up his second shutout of the season and improve to 3-1-0.

Mark Robinshaw made eight saves for Anna Maria to fall to 1-5-1 on the season.

Norwich now has eight points in the league standings and sits in second place, trailing first-place Saint Joseph's College (Maine) by one point. Johnson & Wales in in third with seven points. Both teams have played one less game than the Cadets.

Norwich continues its five-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it hosts Suffolk at 1 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
