Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's soccer team shutout nationally No. 21-ranked Plattsburgh State for nearly 57 minutes, but the high-powered Cardinal offense finally got on the board on a corner kick and then held on for a 1-0 win over the Cadets in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Plattsburgh's Ethan Votraw headed home a corner-kick service from Nelson Vetter for the game's only goal early in the second half to keep the Cardinals (7-0-0) undefeated on the season.
Norwich (4-2-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) lost for just the second time this season, both to regional powerhouses with the other loss coming to Middlebury last Wednesday.
Freshman goalkeeper Stefan Skoff (San Jose, Calif.) was brilliant between the posts for the Cadets, making a career-high nine saves to shut down the Plattsburgh offense, which ranked in the top five in the country in goals scored per game coming into Wednesday.
Plattsburgh outshot Norwich 19-3 and had nine corner kicks to the Cadets' four. Taylor Salmans (Laurel, Md.) and Noah Schiers (South Weber, Utah) each registered shots on goal for Norwich.
Norwich will look to get back on track on Saturday in a big showdown against two-time defending champion Johnson & Wales at 1 p.m.
