Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Junior forward Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) scored twice to lead the Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win over Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at Kreitzberg Arena.
Norwich (6-2-0, 6-0-0 NEHC) won its sixth straight game and extended its league unbeaten streak to 39 straight games with the win.
Senior defenseman Taylor Cross (Saugus, Mass.) had a goal and an assist while sophomore forward Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Desirae Kuhlmann (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) added two assists to round out the Cadets' offensive leaders.
Sophomore goalie Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) stopped all 12 shots she faced as Norwich picked up its fifth shutout over the last six games.
Cross opened the scoring at the 17:04 mark of the first period by firing her own rebound into an open net from the top of the right faceoff circle for her second goal of the season. Cross took an initial shot that was saved by Manhattanville goalie Olivia Drew. However, with Drew scrambling to get back into position, the puck bounced back out to Cross who fired a shot into the open net to make it 1-0 Norwich. Schwenzfeier and Kuhlmann recorded assists on the goal.
The Cadets added to their lead at the 8:31 mark of the second period with Murphy notching her first goal of the day off assists from Christine Bouchat-Bonin (St.-Bernard-De-Lacolle, Quebec) and Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.).
Norwich made it 3-0 at the 16:55 mark with Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) registering her first goal of the year on a scrum in front of the net off assists from Schwenzfeier and Kuhlmann.
The Cadets capped the scoring less than two minutes later with Murphy notching her second of day and team-leading fifth goal of the season off assists from Michelle Masperi (Montorfano, Italy) and Cross.
Norwich outshot Manhattanville 38-12 for the game.
The Cadets are off for two weeks until they return home to Kreitzberg Arena to close out its five-game home stand by hosting Bowdoin College at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in non-conference action.
