NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Junior forward Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) of the Norwich University men's soccer team continued his hot streak, scoring twice to lead the Cadets to their fifth straight win with a 3-0 victory over Rivier University on Monday night.

Zimmerman scored on a penalty kick in the first half and then added another goal with a deft touch in the second half for his eighth and ninth tallies of the season to take over the team lead and score a goal in his fourth straight game.

Zimmerman buried his penalty kick attempt after a slide tackle in the box took Alec Brigante's feet out from under him drawing the penalty. Zimmerman made no mistake about it, drilling a shot into the corner of the net to give Norwich a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

The goal was Zimmerman's 35th of his career, moving him past Gavin Woods for sole possession of fourth place on the Norwich all-time goal scoring list.

The Cadets could have had two or three additional scoring chances in the first half, but chances by both Moab Schiers (South Weber, Utah) and Noah Schiers (South Weber, Utah) fell just short, as well as header opportunity from Chase Hainey (Fryeburg, Maine) that hit the post and deflected away.

Norwich (9-3-1, 5-1-0 GNAC) did finally add to its lead in the 62nd minute with Zimmerman scoring off an assist from classmate Alec Brigante (Colchester, Vt.), who notched his team-leading seventh assist of the season. Brigante passed the ball to Zimmerman from about 15 yards out and he flipped the ball just under the cross bar for the goal.

Senior captain Christian Albrecht (Albuquerque, N.M.) capped the scoring for Norwich with his first goal of the year off an assist from Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) off a corner kick. Lozito sent a perfect ball in to the far post that Albrecht skied up to head down with authority leaving the Rivier defense no chance.

Norwich freshman goalkeeper Stefan Skoff (San Jose, Calif.) made two saves for the Cadets to pick up his fourth shutout of the season and improve to 9-3-1.

NU moved into a tie for first place with Johnson & Wales with both teams having 15 points after Mount Ida lost to Saint Joseph's (Maine). The Cadets close out their regular season home schedule vs. Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
