Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Norwich University men's basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss with the latest against Albertus Magnus, 99-72, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cadets are now 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the GNAC, while No. 9 Albertus Magnus remains undefeated in the league with a 11-0 record and are 17-1 on the year.
Four Cadets scored in double digits with junior forward Alex Preckol (Westford, Mass.) leading a team-high 18 points along with a steal and a block, while junior guard Gary Gladden (Boyton Beach, Fla.) added 11 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) and freshman center Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, Netherlands) scored 10 points apiece.
After a 17-7 surge to start the game with Albertus Magnus in the lead, Norwich shaved the margin to five on a Hogervorst layup followed by Gladden's three-pointer to make it 12-17 with 15:09 to play. The Falcons extended their lead to double digits for majority of the stanza until the 5:20 mark as Tullar dunked the ball before Hogervorst went up for the put-in as the Cadets trailed 39-28. Albertus Magnus closed out the half with an 8-2 run to keep the contest at arm's length for the 49-34 score at the break.
The Cadets looked to march their way back into contention, matching Albertus Magnus' six points in the first four minutes before senior guard Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) launched a long shot from beyond the arc to spark a Faclons' 10-0 run in a span of five minutes as Albertus Magnus led 72-40. Despite the margins, Norwich would add 32 additional points as the Falcons closed out the contest with the 99-72 win.
Norwich would end the day hitting just 46.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, while Albertus Magnus hit 50 percent from the floor and 30.8 percent from the three-point line. The Falcons would outmatch Norwich on the boards, pulling down 41 rebounds to the Cadets' 27, while scoring 46 points in the paint. Albertus Magnus would score 29 points off of Norwich's 21 turnovers on the day, as Norwich would get 35 points from the bench.
The Cadets return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 as the Cadets host Anna Maria College for the 7:00 p.m. league contest.
