Box Score FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Norwich University baseball team collected its second win of the season, dispatching Arcadia University 6-2 Wednesday afternoon.
Cadet sophomore Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) turned in a dominant performance on the mound.
Whaley threw eight innings of five-hit baseball allowing only one run (unearned) and two walks while striking out ten batters.
The Northfield native also added an RBI single in the seventh inning that provided an important insurance run.
The Cadets struck first in the bottom of the third inning. After an error, a single, and a walk sophomore Brian Baker (Keene, N.H.) drew a walk to drive in the first run of the game.
Senior Sean Gerich (Chicago, Ill.) was then hit by a pitch to drive in the Cadets' second run.
Sophomore Cody Lindell (Cranston, R.I.) hit into a fielder's choice that made it 3-0 Norwich before the inning came to an end.
Norwich tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Gerich added an RBI groundout and Lindell scored on an error.
Cadet freshman Kyle Farquharson (South Ryegate, Vt.) came on to pitch the ninth inning for Norwich, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit while striking out one batter.
The Cadets are next in action on Thursday when they face Miami Hamilton University in Vero Beach, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
