Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The top-seeded Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team completed a dominating performance Tuesday night at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center in New Haven, Conn. as the Falcons beat the Cadets of Norwich University 87-69 in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament.
With the win, the Falcons will move on to the semi-finals of the GNAC tournament and will host Lasell on Thursday night. Albertus Magnus improved their record to 24-2 overall. The Falcons have now won 39-straight home games, the current longest home winning streak in NCAA men's basketball.
Following tonight's game, the Falcons are 17-12 all-time against Norwich dating back to their first meeting during the 1993-94 season. Albertus has won the last 12 meetings against Norwich dating back to January 17, 2009.
The Cadets were led offensively by sophomore Gary Gladden (Boynton Beach, Fla.), who totaled a team-best 20 points off the bench. Junior Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) chipped in with 19 points, while Nickolai Havoutis (Coral Glades, Fla.) contributed an even attack of eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Falcons had four different players score in double figures, led by Darius Watson with 18 points. Victor Ljuljdjuraj chipped in with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Eian Davis had a double-double of his own with 12 points and 12 assists. James Jennings also added 12 points for the Falcons' offense.
Norwich trailed from the opening tip, as the Falcons managed to score 15 seconds into the contest following a jumper by Jennings. Albertus Magnus quickly opened a 17-0 lead before the Cadets were able to get on the board following a jumper by Gladden at the 13:53 mark. The Falcons would hold a 48-23 lead at halftime.
The Falcons scored the first basket of the second half as well, but Norwich was much faster to score, as Havoutis netted a three-pointer on the Cadets first trip down the floor. The Falcons' offense was too much for the Cadets, who ultimately fell 87-69.
Norwich outscored the Falcons in points off turnovers (16-10) and in bench points (36-22). Norwich shot 35.2 percent from the floor, while the Falcons connected on 47 percent of their field goal attempts.
The Cadets wrap up the season with a 6-20 record. Their quarterfinal appearance marked the team's first postseason appearance since the 2011-12 season, when the Cadets won their first round game against Emerson to advance to the semifinal, where they ultimately lost to St. Joseph's of Maine.
