RYE, N.Y. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team extended its winning streak to six straight games with a 5-3 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino.

Freshman forward Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.) scored her first career hat trick to lead the Cadets to their 24th straight win over ECAC East opponents.

Norwich (6-1-1, 6-0-0 ECAC East) had its five-game shutout streak snapped and its consecutive shutout minute streak at 355:54 with Manhattanville's Aubrey Bachand scoring a goal at the 9:50 mark of the first period.

Shuchuk tied the game a little less than four minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 heading to the first intermmission. Rachel Bellio (Denver, Colo.) and Taylor Cross (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the assists on the goal.

Manhattanville's Michelle Meggiolaro put the Valiants back up 2-1 just 2:41 into the second period. However, Norwich scored the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Vanessa Champagne (Saint Nazaire, Quebec) scored at the 6:38 mark off assists from Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) and Heidi Amato (Theresa, N.Y.).

Freshman Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) gave Norwich its first lead of the game at the 10:02 mark of the second period. Champagne and Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) each picked up assists on the goal.

Shuchuk scored twice in the third period with a Meggiolaro goal sandwiched in between to complete the scoring on the night.

Norwich outshot Manhattanville 28-19. Sophomore Celeste Robert made 16 saves to pick up the win and improve to 4-0-1 on the year. Ekaterina Nikonova made 23 saves for Manhattanville.

Norwich will return to action on Friday, Dec. 5 when it hosts Amherst College at 7:30 p.m. at Kreitzberg Arena.
