NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team stretched its unbeaten streak to three straight matches with a 40-10 victory over Boston University on Saturday morning at the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch.
Tim Hunter (Stratham, Mass.), Blair Woodley (Westport, Conn,), Dan Burkhart (Medfield, Mass.), Thomas St. Pierre (Warwick, R.I.), Kevin Hoelzer (Wilmington, Del.) and Rhys Humphreys (Warwick, R.I.) all tallied tries in the Norwich victory.
Senior flyhalf Michael Blackmon (Snoqualmie, Wash.) added two penalty kicks and two successful conversions to round out the Cadets' scoring on the day.
Hunter opened the scoring in the 11th miniute with a try and successful Blackmon conversion to put the Cadets up 7-0. In the 18th minute, Burkhart added another try for the Cadets after NU tackled a BU player near the try line and then Burkhart dove on the ball in the end goal to make it 12-0 Norwich.
Back-to-back penalty kicks by Blackmon in the 31st and and 36th minutes increase the Cadets' lead to 18-0. Woodley added another try at the 39:00 mark to make it 23-0 Norwich heading into halftime.
Boston University got on the board in the 48th minute with a try by Richards to cut the deficit to 23-5. However, Norwich scored the next three tries to put the punctuation on the win. St. Pierre dove across the try line in the 55th minute and then Hoelzer and Humphreys added scores in the 61st and 68th minutes to increase the lead to 40-5. Boston University got on try back in the final two minutes but it was too little too late.
Norwich (4-3-1, 3-3-1 NECRC) will travel to take on the Univ. of New Hampshire next Saturday at 10 a.m.
