Men’s Rugby: Cadets Dominate UMaine Orono in 69-14 Victory

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's rugby team delivered a dominant all-around performance, rolling past the University of Maine at Orono, 69-14, behind 11 tries and a strong effort from all 23 players who took the pitch.

The Cadets showcased their offensive firepower throughout the contest, finding the try zone 11 times while limiting UMaine Orono to just two tries. Norwich's success was a complete team effort, highlighted by a relentless forward pack that created opportunities on both sides of the ball.

Sophomore Aedan Kerr (Hillside, N.J.) stepped into the No. 10 jersey and delivered a spectacular performance, finishing with two tries and seven conversions for a team-high 24 points. With captain Joe Whiteside (Killingworth, Conn.) unavailable due to family obligations and John Kelly (Madison, Conn.) ruled out shortly before kickoff with a wrist injury, Kerr rose to the occasion and helped guide the Cadets' attack.

Sophomore James Fagley (Vernon, Vt.) led Norwich with three tries, totaling 15 points, while juniors Tyreeque Green (Shirley, N.Y.) and Brandon Smith (Charlotte, N.C.) each crossed the try line twice to contribute 10 points apiece. Smith, the junior scrum half, helped drive the forward pack, setting the tone for Norwich's physical approach. Senior Tydus Percy (Brownsville, Vt.) and junior Eegan Karmya (Livingston, N.J.) each added a try to round out the scoring.

Although the backs accounted for 10 of Norwich's 11 tries, the forwards played a critical role in controlling the match. Norwich consistently applied pressure defensively, preventing UMaine Orono from generating forward momentum while making significant gains in attack. That physical presence created space and opportunities for the backs to capitalize throughout the contest.

The Cadets' balanced performance extended beyond the scoreboard, as every member of the 23-player squad saw playing time. Norwich's depth and collective effort helped sustain its intensity from start to finish in the commanding 69-14 victory.

The Cadets will be back in action this Saturday against University of New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
