Box Score STANDISH, Maine—Junior Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) scored a game-high 26 points off the bench for the Norwich University men's basketball team, but it was not enough as the Cadets fell 66-49 to the Monks of St. Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
With the loss, the Cadets fall to 6-17 overall and 3-13 in league play, while the win boosts the Monks to 15-8 overall and 10-6 in GNAC action.
For the Cadets, McDonald led all scorers with 26 points and added a team-high five rebounds. Josh Cabrera (Providence, R.I.) scored eight points, while Gary Gladden (Boynton Beach, Fla.) chipped in with seven points.
St. Joseph's say a team-high 17 points from Matthew Medeiros. Nicholas Jobin scored 11 points and recorded a game-high nine rebounds, while Zach Blodgett rounded out the top scorers for the Monks with 10 points.
The Cadets controlled the lead early the game and led 10-8 midway through the first half, but the Monks used three-straight three-pointers to take a 17-10 lead with 8:40 to play in the half. Blodgett hit the first two of the three-point baskets, while Nolan Allen added the third.
The Monks did not trail from that point forward and led by 22 points, 44-22, at halftime.
St. Joseph's continued to control in the second half and used 42 percent shooting from the floor and 36.4 percent shooting from three-point range to take the 17-point win. The Cadets were held to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, but posted a 41.7 percent advantage from three-point range.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The Cadets will take on Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in GNAC action.
