Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team completed the season sweep of St. Michael's on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory at the Douglas C. Cairns Arena in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action.
After being the only line to not score on Friday night in Norwich's 9-0 win over St. Michael's, the Cadets' second line of Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.), Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa) and Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ontario) combined for both Norwich goals on the afternoon.
Anderson notched her second of the year on a rebound in front of the net at the 8:35 mark of the first period to give the Cadets a lead they would never looked back from. Sophomore defenseman Maggie Cross (Wattsburg, Pa.) and Moore picked up the assists on the goal.
Moore made it 2-0 at the 8:58 mark of the second period, scoring on a breakaway for her first goal in a Norwich uniform after spending two seasons at New England College. Anderson picked up the assist on Moore's goal.
Junior goalie Taylor Fairchild (Overland Park, Kan.) improved to 2-0-0 on the season, stopping all seven shots she faced. St. Michael's goalie Abby Burke stole the show though for the Purple Knights, making 54 saves to keep the high-octane Norwich offense at bay.
Norwich (3-1-0, 2-0-0 ECAC East) returns home to Kreitzberg Arena next Friday and Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross at 7 p.m. the first night and then Salve Regina at 3 p.m. the next day in two more ECAC East league contests.
