Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore forward Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) notched five assists to tie a program single-game record and lead the No. 6 Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 7-1 win over St. Michael's College on Friday afternoon at Cairns Arena.
Freshman forward Lucie Manhartova (Prague, Czech Republic) chipped in with two goals and an assist in her best game to date in a Cadet uniform.
Norwich (8-2-3, 8-1-0 ECAC East) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by freshman forward Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec) tallying her third goal at the 7:53 mark and then freshman defenseman Taylor Cross (Saugus, Mass.) scoring her fourth of the season on the power play at the 15:33 mark of the first.
The Cadets continued to amplify the intensity in the second period with Anderson leading the way, notching an assist on all three Norwich goals to help the Cadets take a 5-0 lead. St. Michael's was finally able to get one back late in the frame to make it 5-1 heading into the second intermission.
Manhartova scored her first of the game and fourth of the season at 9:11 and then junior defenseman Kayla Parsons (Fairbanks, Alaska) notched her eighth goal at the 14:07 mark on the power play. A little over three minutes later, sophomore Vanessa Champagne (St. Naziere, Quebec) added another power play to make it 5-0 off assists from Anderson and Manhartova.
Shannon Rice got St. Michael's on the board at the 18:49 mark of the second period to cut the deficit back to four goals heading into the third period.
Junior forward Tori Charron (Tecumseh, Ontario) potted her team-leading 12th goal at the 5:46 mark of the third and then Manhartova capped the scoring with her second of the night and fifth of the year.
Norwich outshot St. Michael's (1-12-1, 1-9-0 ECAC East) 54-12 and now improves to 11-1-0 all-time against the Purple Knights. Junior goalie Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots to earn her first win of the season in net for the Cadets.
Meaghan Leong made 27 saves for St. Michael's in 40 minutes of action and surrendered five goals to pick up the loss. Erin Stevens came on for the final 20 minutes and made 20 saves while giving two goals.
The Cadets return to action tomorrow when they travel down Salve Regina to take on the Seahawks at 5:30 p.m. in another ECAC East matchup.
