Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Norwich University men's soccer team battled league-leading Albertus Magnus to a 110-minute scoreless draw on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Playing for the first time since the Cadets (6-3-1, 3-1-1 GNAC) upset Albertus Magnus in the GNAC Tournament semifinals one year ago, NU once again proved to be a thorn in the Falcons' sides, stretching their shutout streak to 211 straight minutes.
Norwich became the first team to put a blemish in Albertus Magnus' otherwise perfect conference record in 2012 as the Falcons are now 5-0-1 in GNAC play and 8-1-2 overall. Albertus Magnus is unbeaten in its last eight matches.
Junior goalkeeper Greg Payne (State College, Pa.) made his third straight start for Norwich, stopping seven shots to earn the clean sheet for the Cadets. Albertus Magnus outshot Norwich 26-10.
Senior Mike Ravenelle (Merrimack, N.H.) and junior Joe Young (McLean, Va.) tied for the team high with two shots a piece.
NU head coach Kyle Dezotell remained at 99 overall career coaching victories and continues to be tied with Bob Friskie (1995-2002) for the Norwich career coaching wins record with 88 each.
The Cadets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Emmanuel to take on the Saints in another GNAC tilt slated to kickoff at 7 p.m.
