Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University baseball team sent 18 batters to the plate in a 14-run second inning to build a commanding 17-0 lead on its way to a 17-7 non-conference victory over visiting Norwich University at Panther Park Monday, April 9. The Panthers (10-10) rapped out 13 of their 20 hits in the frame, stranding only one runner. Two Norwich errors prolonged the inning.
Mike Cappiello had a stellar day for PSU, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Cappiello had a two-run double and a three-run home run in the decisive second inning. Luke Merrill and Rew Wilson also went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, chipping in two and three RBIs respectively.
Jeff Runnals (1-0) picked up the win, giving up three earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.
Sophomore outfielder
Nicholas Gendron (Alstead, N.H./Vermont Academy) continued a strong first year for the Cadets (3-21) at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Classmate
Charles Schaub (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton) went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
Norwich hosts Albertus Magnus for a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 11, at Garrity Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
