Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Norwich University baseball team fell to Clark by scores of 10-6 and 17-0 Saturday, March 24, in doubleheader action at Granger Field.
Clark (5-12) used a four-run first inning in game one to open up a comfortable 4-0 lead. Matthew Bohl went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead the Cougar bats, while Michael Lamothe went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a RBI and three runs scored from the leadoff spot.
Junior right fielder Dustin Shimkus (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran) led Norwich (0-11) at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored.
Brian Sullivan (2-2) picked up the win for CU in the opener, scattering four hits over five-plus innings while walking two and striking out 11. NU senior Alexandro Cardoza (Cicero, Ill./Cristo Rey Jesuit) took the loss in falling to 0-2.
Andrew LeBlanc (2-2) threw a complete game two-hitter in the nightcap as Clark blanked Norwich. Leblanc struck out 12 and walked only one in a masterful performance. Junior Ben Kleiner (Cheshire, Mass./Cheshire) fell to 0-2 for the Cadets with the loss.
Bohl turned in another strong game at the plate in game two, going 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Brian Sullivan added a 3-for-3 effort with a double and two RBIs, scoring four runs in the process.
Senior designated hitter Corey Shearer (Montague, Mass./Montague) doubled in the top of the seventh inning and sophomore shortstop Devin Cilley (Tunbridge, Vt./South Royalton) had a single in the third frame to account for the two NU hits.
Norwich returns to action Sunday, March 25, when they travel to Castleton, Vt., to take on in-state rival Castleton State for a twin bill. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
