MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman pitcher Corrine Baita (Rochester, N.H.) fired a complete-game four-hitter leading Norwich University to a 5-0 win over Mt. St. Vincent March 16.
Baita struck out seven and allowed just one walk. The sophomore duo of infielder/catcher Abby Belcher (Winthrop, Mass.) and infielder/outfielder Kaylie Miller (Long Lake, N.Y.) guided the offense. Miller finished with two hits and RBI, while Belcher followed with a double and two runs scored.
Miller opened the final day of the spring swing with a big game at the plate and on the mound in an 8-3 win over Gordon. She was three-for-three with three singles, a walk, an RBI and a run scored and got a start en route to the win by firing five frames with one strikeout and only two walks surrendered.
Sophomore Kylie Pratt (Hyde Park, Vt.) also had a strong outing against Gordon with two hits and two runs scored. She also came out of the bullpen for the final two innings and gave up only one hit. Other offensive stars for Coach Greg McGrath's team were freshman catcher/infielder Elizabeth Boynton and junior infielder Noel Byers (Iron Mountain, Mich.). Boynton singled twice and drove in two runs, and Byers also added two hits and two RBIs.
Norwich (6-4) begins its 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate with three road doubleheaders at Mount Ida, Emerson and St. Joseph's of Connecticut March 23-25.
