Box Score PAXTON, Mass.—Senior quarterback Kris Sabourin (Georgia, Vt.) had a hand in four touchdowns to lead the Cadets of Norwich University to a 50-21 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) win against Anna Maria College. The win is the third-straight for the Cadets, who improve to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in ECFC action. The AMCATS fall to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Entering today's game, Sabourin needed just two touchdown passes to become the program leader in career touchdown passes. With his three throwing scores today, he becomes the record-holder with 41 career throwing touchdowns.
Sabourin totaled 143 passing yards on 11 completions. In addition, he posted a team-high 159 rushing yards in 13 carries.
Danny Triplett (Haverhill, Mass.) ran for a total of 83 yards with two touchdowns, including the opening score at the 9:23 mark. Triplett gave the Cadets the 6-0 advantage on a 10-yard run. Sabourin would find Derrick Pitts (Schenectady, N.Y.) for the two-point conversion to give Norwich the 8-0 lead.
The Cadets would score three more times in the first quarter as Sabourin completed a 35 yard pass to Zach Allen (Boston, Mass.), Triplett converted a 1-yard run, and Sabourin ran for 68 yards. Mike Schreiner (St. Albans, Vt.) connected on point-after attempts following all three touchdowns to give the Cadets a 29-0 lead entering the second quarter.
Both teams recorded touchdowns in the second frame. The Cadets would strike first, using six plays to travel 44 yards which ended with a 16-yard pass by Sabourin to Dan Jamieson (Morris Plains, N.J.).
Anna Maria responded with back-to-back touchdowns spanning the second and third quarters, beginning with a five-play, 69-yard drive in the second quarter resulting in a six-yard run by Santonio Simone. The AMCATS would extend their point total to 14 in the third quarter with an 11 yard pass by Simone to Chris Bettano.
Norwich extended their lead to 43-14 on another Sabourin pass to Jamieson. Following the AMCATS final touchdown of the game, Norwich's Mike Cavanaugh (Raymond, N.H.) ran for 14 yards to solidify the 50-21 victory.
Leading the way defensively for Norwich was Stephen Gilmore (Norton, Mass.) who posted a team-best 12 tackles. John Taranto (New Britain, Conn.), Luis Delgado (Accord, N.Y.) and Matt Simonelli (Scituate, R.I.) all added 11 tackles apiece.
The Cadets return to action next weekend, hosting the final game on natural-grass at Sabine Field. Norwich will face Maritime (N.Y.) at 1:00 p.m. and will honor the program's 16 seniors in a small ceremony prior to kickoff.
