Norwich University wound up with a men's split as part of
a road trip to Bates and Colby Colleges of Maine Jan. 7-8.
Coach Laura Dunn's Cadets topped the University of New
England 78-42 at a triangular hosted by Bates. They also dropped a
110-22 decision to the host Bobcats Saturday and were felled by
Colby 155-64 Sunday. NU's women were upended in all three
meetings.
The Maroon and Gold concluded the two-day trip, part of a
six-event road trip, with four individual event victories all of
which occurred at Colby. Freshman Lance Webster (Windham, Maine)
led a one-two sweep in the 1650-yard freestyle while senior Mike
Zemanek (Voorheesville, N.Y.) was second. The men's and
women's 400-yard freestyle teams were also winners. The
women's quartet of senior Felicia Jones (Sherburne, N.Y.),
freshman Daniella Vitale (North Smithfield, R.I.), sophomore
Giovanna Stein (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and senior Janice Knoop
(Cicero, N.Y.) crossed in 4:23.52. Zemanek, juniors Chris Hevey
(Biddeford, Maine) and Andrew Grubbs (York, Pa.), and senior Kevin
Weber (Stephentown, N.Y.) led the men's relay to the win in
3:32.18.
Saturday's triangular at Bates was spotlighted by a pair
of runner-up finishes each for Webster and Zemanek. Webster was
second in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, while
Zemanek was second in the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle
races.
Norwich returns to the pool Saturday, Jan. 14, for a dual at
Babson College in Boston, Mass. Meet time is 1 p.m.
