Women's Hockey: Rundlett tallies 100th career point in Cadets' 9-0 rout of St. Michael's

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior forward Melissa Rundlett (Saco, Maine) became just the third Norwich women's hockey player in program history to reach 100 career points as the team captain tallied a goal and two assists to help the No. 2-ranked Cadets rout St. Michael's 9-0 in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action on Friday night.

After picking up an assist on Renee Lortie's goal at the 5:36 mark of the first period for her 99th career point, Rundlett reached the 100-point-milestone with her seventh goal of the season at the 17:09 mark of the first period to make it 5-0 Norwich. Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) led the Cadets' offense on the night with two goals and two assists.

Freshman Vanessa Champagne (St. Naziere, Quebec) opened the scoring just 4:11 into the game with her first career goal off assists from Kayla Lascelle (Cornwall, Ontario.) and Stephanie Invernizzi (Hingham, Mass.)

Norwich (11-1-1, 8-0-1 ECAC East) had 13 different players on the score sheet as it stretched its ECAC East regular season unbeaten streak to 30 games.

Senior defensemen Sarianne Lynn (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Amanda Wilks (Winnipeg, Manitoba) each had solid nights as Lynn picked up four assists, while Wilks scored a goal and notched two helpers for NU.

Freshman forward Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) had two goals to bring her season total to 13 and senior forward Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) scored a goal as well to hold onto the team for the season with 14.

Norwich outshot the Purple Knights 55-14 and has now outscored St. Michael's 25-0 in their last three meetings.

Sophomore Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) earned her seventh win of the season while stopping all 14 shots she faced. St. Michael's goalie Erin Stevens made 46 saves for the Purple Knights and fell to 1-9-1 on the year.

Norwich returns to action next Thursday, Jan. 12 when the Cadets finish off their home and home with St. Michael's by hosting the Purple Knights at Kreitzberg Arena at 4 p.m. in another ECAC East contest.

NOTES: Rundlett now sits at 101 career points (47 goals and 54 assists) … fellow senior Julie Fortier is now 20 points away from breaking Sophie Leclerc's program record 163 career points. Fortier has 76 goals and 68 assists and already holds the school record for career goals. Elle Kadel scored her first goal of the season to make it 6-0 at the 18:03 mark of the first period and Meghan Papagno picked up an assist on the goal in her first game of the 2011-12 campaign.
