WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – St. Joseph (Conn.) swept a pair of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests against the Norwich softball team on Saturday.

The Blue Jays (11-11, 7-3 GNAC) shutout the Cadets 6-0 in Game 1 and then pounded out 16 hits in the nightcap to mercy-rule Norwich by a score of 12-3.

Kristina Torres went the distance for St. Joseph (Conn.) and pick up her fifth win of the season while surrendering just three hits and two walks and striking out nine Cadets.

Abby Belcher, Noel Byers, and Erin Vien each accounted for a hit for Norwich.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Buker (3-6) was saddled with the loss for Norwich after working five innings. She gave up eight hits, four runs, and one walk while striking out three.

In the nightcap, St. Joseph (Conn.)'s bats came alive to score 12 runs on 16 hits. Stephanie Valerio led the way by going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Susie Waters chipped in with three RBIs, while Bryanna Durant and April Campanella each had three hits as well.

Norwich's offense was led by Marley Balasco who blasted a two-run homerun for her team-leading fourth of the season. Belcher also chipped in with a 1-for-3 effort and added an RBI.

St. Joseph (Conn.)'s Emily Hummel picked up the win for the Blue Jays after going all six innings and giving up four hits, three runs while striking out eight.

Kylie Pratt lost her second straight game after giving up 10 earned runs, one walk, and striking out seven.
