NASHUA, N.H.- The Norwich Softball team concluded its 2025 season Sunday afternoon with a road doubleheader against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division foe Rivier, where the Raiders would take home the sweep.
The Cadets got off to a hot start in game one, jumping ahead by two in the top of the first. After
Adelette Gutierrez (Cameron, N.C.) reached on a fielder's choice and moved over to second on a wild pitch,
Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) drove her in with a one-out RBI single.
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) followed suit with an RBI single of her own to bring home DeCota on her 100
th career hit.
Norwich extended their lead in the second with four runs on four hits.
Kennedy White (Randolph Center, Vt.) started with a walk, before being sacrificed over to second base. A single and a stolen base by
Hailey Williams (Tamaqua, Pa.) put runners on second and third with one down for Gutierrez, who brought home White with an RBI single. DeCota followed by hitting a three-run home run to left field, her fourth of the season, to give the Cadets a six-run lead after an inning and a half. Â
However, Rivier responded with four runs in the home half of the inning to cut their deficit before taking the lead for good in the third, before opening the floodgates to a game one win. DeCota (2-3, 2 Runs, 4 RBI, Home Run) and
Emily Munson (Angleton, Texas) (2-3) led the way at the plate.
The Raiders kept the momentum rolling in game two, opening a seven-run lead after four innings. Norwich got on the board in the fifth with Gutierrez driving home White on an RBI single and added one in the sixth with Munson doubling home DeCota after a two-bagger of her own. Williams (2-3, Double), Gutierrez (2-4), and White (2-3, Run) led the way at the plate.
The Cadets conclude their season, surpassing their win percentage from 2024. They will graduate three seniors in White, McGinn, and
Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.).
