Box Score STANDISH, Maine – The Norwich men's
basketball team reached the semifinals of the Great Northeast
Athletic Conference after a 62-44 defeat of Emerson in Andrews Hall
on Tuesday, but fell short to Saint Joseph's (Maine), 72-56,
in the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday night.
Senior Jaren Jeffcoat led the Cadets with 14
points, while the Monks held senior Quincy
Williams, junior Antonio Davis and
freshman Pim Smulders to eight points apiece.
Davis collected 10 rebounds.
Chris Petzy put up 21 points to lead the Monks to the
championships, as Zach O'Brien made 16 points and Clark
Noonan grabbed 10 boards.
Norwich was trailing 30-24 at halftime. The Cadets had taken the
lead in the seventh minute of action and worked to keep their
advantage for the next seven minutes. With 6:46 remaining in the
first half, the Monks tied it at 16-all, soon to take the lead
within the next minute.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) pulled away in the second, leaving
Norwich to make up for the 20-points the Monks held on them just
five minutes into the half. The Cadets tried to make up for
the difference, but were unable to overcome the double-digit
spread.
With two and a half minutes left in the semifinal round, Norwich
had pulled within 13-points, but was unable to close the deal in
the remaining time.
The Cadets wrapped up their 2010-11 schedule with a 16-11
overall record, going 11-7 in the conference. Davis, Jeffcoat, and
Cabrera earned All-Conference honors for their season
performances.
