NORTHFIELD, VT. – A combined 16 Norwich University
men's and women's swimmers made the A or B cut list for
the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving
Championships during the Cadets' home-opening dual Nov.
5.
Coach Laura Dunn's men gave regional power SUNY-Potsdam
all it could handle in a tight-knit 147-132 loss, while the Maroon
and Gold's women's squad posted 72 points in a 147-72
loss to the Bears at Goodyear Pool in Plumley Armory.
Norwich won nine individual events. The men's champions
were led by senior Mike Zemanek (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and freshman
Shakeel Ballantyne (Jonesboro, Ga.) who were double winners.
Zemanek claimed first in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, while
Ballantyne was a winner in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Freshman
Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.) and sophomore Janice Knoop
(Cicero, N.Y.) were first in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly,
respectively, to guide the women.
Dunn's teams return to Goodyear Pool to continue a run of
three straight home duals Saturday, Nov. 12. The Cadets host
Colby-Sawyer at 1 p.m.
