Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich men's soccer team won its second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout win at Johnson & Wales.
Sophomore forward Joe Young continued his recent hot streak, tallying the lone goal for the Cadets in the 15th minute with an assist from freshman Chris Bristol. Young beat Johnson & Wales goalkeeper Ryan Dzierawski off a corner kick service from Bristol. The goal was Young's fourth of the season and the assist was Bristol's third.
Norwich freshman goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom made two saves to pick up his second straight shutout in net for the Cadets after returning from injury. He improved to 3-2 on the season and now has three total shutouts on the season. Dzierawski was saddled with the loss after making six saves for the Wildcats.
The Cadets outshot Johnson & Wales 16-6 and had six corner kicks to the Wildcats' four.
With the win, Norwich improved to 6-7 on the year and 4-3 in GNAC contests. The Cadets also moved up a four-way tie for second place in the conference standings. Johnson & Wales drops to 4-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in GNAC.
NU returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Lyndon State in its final non-conference match of the season. Game time is 3:30 p.m. at Howard Field. The Cadets will have their first chance to get back to .500 since Sept. 3 when NU downed Rhode Island College 1-0 at the Roger Williams Tournament to move to 1-1 on the year.
