Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore defender Wesley Keslin and freshman midfielder Chris Bristol hooked up on a pair of set pieces to account for both of the Norwich men's soccer team's goals in a 2-1 win over Lyndon State on Tuesday at Howard Field in non-league action.
Lyndon State (5-8-0, 2-4-0 NAC) took the lead just 23 seconds into the game when Shane O'Donnell-Leach dribbled through three Norwich defenders on the left side and then beat NU goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom.
O'Donnell-Leach ripped a low shot off his right foot to the near post that bounced off the inside of the post and into the back of the net to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead and abruptly end Hallstrom's consecutive shutout minutes streak.
Norwich (7-7-0, 4-3-0 GNAC) battled back though as a little more than 10 minutes later Keslin scored the first of his two goals by heading home a free kick by Bristol from 25 yards out into the right corner of the net.
Bristol found Keslin again in the 32nd minute with a corner kick that Keslin side volleyed into the net far post to give the Cadets a 2-1 lead that they would never relinquish. The goal was Keslin's third of the season and the assist was Bristol's fifth.
Hallstrom made five saves for Norwich and improved to 4-2 on the season. Lyndon State's Jason Gray turned aside nine shots and fell to 3-5 on the season.
NU has now won three straight matches and is .500 for the first time since the second game of the season when the Cadets beat Rhode Island College 1-0 on the first day of the Roger Williams Tournament to bring their overall record to 1-1.
The Cadets will look to extend their streak on Saturday when they play their final road game of the regular season at Suffolk. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
