Men's Soccer: Norwich And Plattsburgh Battle To 0-0 Draw In 2OT

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University and Plattsburgh State men's college soccer teams played 110 minute of scoreless action on Wednesday at Howard Field.  Freshman G Alex Toomey stood tall in goal for the Cadets, turning away multiple chances by the Cardinals in a physical contest in which a total of 28 fouls were called.

Plattsburgh State (2-0-1) took control of the game in the first half, possessing the ball for most of the period.

Toomey and the Cadet defense held its ground, however, and kept the board clear.

Norwich (2-1-1) was able to sustain some offensive pressure of its own in the second half. Sophomore F Jake Leclaire and fellow striker junior Ryan Robertson were able to get off several quality shots against PSU goalie Andy Heighington.

Even with the extra 20 minutes of game time neither team could find back of the net to end the match.

The Cardinals held a 19-9 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Toomey finished the game with nine saves for NU, while Heighington had three stops for Plattsburgh.

The Cadets next game will be on Saturday, Sept. 11, in New Haven, Conn., against Albertus Magnus. The conference tilt is set to get underway at 3:15 p.m.
