Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich men's soccer snapped
its two-game skid by shutting out Johnson & Wales 2-0 at Howard
Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets (4-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 GNAC) needed less than 10
minutes to find the back of the net when Anthony
Amell gathered his own rebound and buried the ball
past Johnson & Wales senior goalkeeper Joe
Ferraro to give NU a 1-0 lead at the 8:54 mark.
Less than three minutes later sophomore Garrett
Shufelt found senior Roger
Motaze making a run on the wing.
Motaze beat his defender and then fired a shot
into the upper-90 far post to increase the lead to 2-0.
As the first half went on both teams started to get physical,
resulting in two yellow cards issued to Johnson & Wales and one
for Norwich.
With the two-goal lead, Norwich held its defenders back for a
majority of the second half and Johnson & Wales (1-6-1 overall,
1-2-0 GNAC) was never able to mount much of an attack as the
Wildcats only forced Norwich freshman goalkeeper Alex Toomey
to make three saves.
Ferraro had eight stops for Johnson &
Wales.
Norwich travels to Castleton on Wednesday at 7 p.m for a
non-conference tilt.
