Men's Soccer: Albertus Magnus Edges NU, 2-1

Box Score

New Haven, CT – The Norwich University men's soccer team could not get past a tough Albertus Magnus squad Saturday afternoon, falling by a 2-1 score in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

After a scoreless first half that saw Albertus (4-1-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) outshoot the Cadets, 12-5, the Falcons found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Jamal Howard finished a deflection off a free kick by Steven Zapata.

Norwich (2-2-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) tied the game at 1-1 in the 79th minute on an impressive header finish from freshman D Anthony Amell.

Rafael Guillen scored the eventual game winner for AMC, finishing a header of his own on Zapata's corner kick with just seven minutes left to play.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Toomey made 10 saves for Norwich, while Donato Piroscafo had two stops in picking up the win for the Falcons.

The Cadets return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14, when they host in-state rival Johnson State at Howard Field. The game is set to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
