Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The #3 Cadets were unable to come back from a one-goal deficit at halftime to defeat the Falcons, eventually dropping the semifinal contest to #2 Albertus Magnus, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Toomey continued to hold the last line of defense as he has done all season. The Falcons tallied 14 shots throughout the contest, as the Cadets stayed right there with them with 13.
Norwich entered halftime down by one goal after Falcons' Alphonse Buccitti scored in the 10th minute of action. Upon taking the field for the second half, Albertus Magnus quickly took hold of the momentum, scoring back-to-back goals in the sixth and seventh minute of play. An 80th minute goal sealed the Cadets' fate, as they were unable to snap the shutout.
"It was a strange game," said head coach Kyle Dezotell. "From the run of play, we were probably the better team. Their goalkeeper made a number of nice saves, including saving a PK. However, the difference was set-pieces, as all four goals were headers from set pieces. Credit to Albertus for taking advantage of these opportunities."
Toomey recorded two saves in net, finishing his first season as a Cadet with a 10-6-2 record in goal.
The Cadets finished their regular season ranked third in the GNAC standings, achieving a 10-6-2 overall record and going 6-3 in the conference. They still hold a chance of receiving an ECAC bid, news of which will be released on Monday.
