Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Norwich University men's
soccer team squandered a second half two-goal lead to tie Lyndon
State 2-2 on Wednesday at the Lyndon State Varsity Athletic
Field.
Freshman Eric Weir continued his recent
goal-scoring surge as the midfielder tallied both goals for the
Cadets.
Weir gave Norwich (5-5-2) a 1-0 lead at the
14:52 mark of the first half off an assist from sophomore
Garrett Shufelt.
Weir added his second goal early in the second
half to put the Cadets up 2-0. He now has four goals in
Norwich's last two games.
However, Lyndon State (7-2-2) rallied to score two goals within
40 seconds starting with Phil Curll's goal
off a direct kick with 6:33 left in the game.
The Hornets regained possession on the ensuing kickoff and
Richie Hackett scored the equalizer off a rebound
after Teague Coyle's initial shot that
Norwich goalkeeper Alex Toomey turned away.
However, Toomey couldn't control the
rebound and Hackett leveled the score at two.
Neither side was able to score in the two 10-minute overtime
sessions and it ended in a 2-2 draw.
Toomey made seven saves for the Cadets while
Lyndon State's Jason Gray stopped six
shots.
The Hornets outshot Norwich 21-14.
The Cadets return home to Howard Field on Saturday when
they'll host Mount Ida at 2:30 p.m. as part of a soccer
doubleheader for Homecoming weekend with the women's squad
who take the field at 12 p.m. against Pine Manor.
