University, 85-83, in a non-conference men's basketball game
Saturday afternoon at Coffin Field House.
The Chargers (5-2) led by 19 points early in the second
half, but they had to withstand a furious second half rally by the
Cadets to hold on for the victory. David Rosso added 15 points for
CSC, while Will Bardaglio pitched in 10.
Norwich (5-3) shot a blistering 62.9 percent (22-of-35) from the
floor in the second half to get back in the game. The Cadets were
led by sophomore F Antonio Davis, who scored a game-high 21 points

The first five minutes of the game featured a pair of ties and
six lead changes. The Cadets led 9-8 at the 14:46 mark, but that
would be the last time they would hold an advantage. Three
consecutive three-pointers by Rosso, Jon Chaloux and Willis helped
ignite an 18-2 run by Colby-Sawyer that gave the Chargers a 26-11
lead with 9:32 to play before halftime.
Five points by Davis keyed a quick 7-0 spurt, which pulled the
Cadets to within 26-18 two minutes later. CSC responded with an
11-2 run to take a 37-20 lead at the 4:27 mark. The Chargers
extended their lead to as many as 19 points later in the stanza
before carrying a 46-28 lead into the intermission.
The large halftime lead was due in part to the Chargers shooting
51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the floor and connecting on 6-of-12
three-pointers. The Cadets, meanwhile, shot just 33.3 percent
(10-of-30) from the field and made only 1-of-10 from beyond the arc
in the first 20 minutes.
Colby-Sawyer led by 17 (62-45) with 13:37 to play, but Norwich
reeled off a 9-2 spurt over the next four minutes to trim its
deficit to 64-54 at the 9:45 mark. The teams traded baskets for the
next few minutes, and Colby-Sawyer led 76-66 with 5:09 left. Six
unanswered points by the Cadets made it 76-72 at the 3:54 mark, but
a jumper by Rosso and a lay-up by Chrispatrick Cox put CSC in front
80-72 with 1:09 remaining.
Norwich was forced to start fouling to stop the clock, and
Willis knocked down several clutch free throws in the waning
moments to help keep Colby-Sawyer in front. The freshman hit
11-of-12 free throws in the contest.
For the game, Norwich shot 49.2 percent (32-of-65) from the
field, while Colby-Sawyer made 44.6 percent (25-of-56) of its shots
from the floor. The Chargers held a huge advantage at the foul
line, converting 25-of-33 free throws, compared to 14-of-17 for the
Cadets. CSC also held the edge from three-point range, making
10-of-25, compared to 5-of-21 for NU. Norwich outscored
Colby-Sawyer 48-26 in the paint, despite being outrebounded, 36-33.
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 6, when the Cadets
host Skidmore at Andrews Hall. Tip-off for the non-league clash is
set for 7 p.m.
