NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Jamal Howard notched the game's lone goal midway through the first half, and Gerald O'Connor made it stand up as Albertus Magnus defeated Norwich, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Howard Field.

The Falcons improve to 5-4-1 (2-2-0 GNAC), while the Cadets drop to 4-4-2 (2-1-1 GNAC).

Howard's goal came at the 14:49 mark of the first half, when Steven Zapata crossed a ball from the right corner that Howard shot under the crossbar off a bounce. The tally proved the game-winning goal as neither team could manage to score after that.

The Cadets held a slight edge in shots (16-14) and corner kicks (7-5).

NU senior GK Charles Maxwell finished the game with six saves, while O'Connor made five stops for AMC.

The Cadets wrap up their five-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they host in-state rival Lyndon State College at Howard Field. Kickoff for the non-conference match is set for 3:30 p.m.
