NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's soccer team got back on track Wednesday afternoon with an 8-0 romp over visiting Green Mountain College in a non-conference match at Howard Field.

Ryan Robertson paced the offense for Norwich (6-6-2) as the sophomore forward netted his first career hat trick and added a pair of assists. Freshman F Mike Ravenelle chipped in two goals, while freshman M Kyle Buscaglia posted one goal and two assists.

Roger Motaze opened the scoring just 1 minute, 57 seconds into the contest when the junior forward took a nice lead pass from Robertson and beat Green Mountain GK Nate Kishbaugh to put the Cadets on top.

Robertson made it 2-0 in the ninth minute when he took a feed from junior D Zach Blodgett, dribbled in and beat Kishbaugh to the left side of the net. Buscaglia added NU's third goal - and the first of his career - just 1:05 later when he followed Robertson's shot and buried the rebound.

Robertson notched his second marker of the game in the 15th minute when he knocked home a rebound to increase the Cadets' lead to 4-0. He completed the hat trick in the 28th minute when he took a feed from Buscaglia and dribbled around Kishbaugh before simply tapping the ball into the open net.

The Cadets seemed to pull back on the reins a bit over the final 15 minutes and they settled for a 5-0 halftime lead.

Norwich made wholesale substitutions at the intermission, which allowed several reserve players the opportunity to see significant playing time.

Freshman F Jason Klein began the second half scoring in the 65th minute when he received a pass from Buscaglica and scored his first career goal. Ravenelle extended Norwich's lead to 7-0 in the 74th minute when he fired a shot into the lower left-hand corner of the net from 15 yards out. Ploof picked up an assist on the play.

Ravenelle closed out the scoring in the 89th minute when he gathered a rebound off Ploof's shot and rammed it home from point blank range. Ploof earned his second assist of the game on the play.

Norwich thoroughly dominated the stat sheet, outshooting GMC 29-3 in the game. The Cadets held a commanding 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Norwich freshman goalkeepers Sam Armus and Matt Calhoun combined on the shutout. Kishbaugh finished with 10 saves for Green Mountain (0-11-1).

The Cadets will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to tangle with Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Johnson & Wales University. Kickoff for the key league match is set for 1 p.m.
